Asteya non-stealing and enoughness

Asteya (Non-Stealing) and Enoughness

March 24, 2026/in Fever Yoga Cycle Strength /by Shannon Austin

What Is Asteya?

Asteya is the principle of non-stealing, but its meaning extends far beyond taking physical objects. It includes anything that is not freely given, including time, energy, attention, and even opportunities. At a deeper level, asteya asks you to examine the mindset behind your actions. It is less about external behavior and more about internal patterns, particularly those rooted in lack or comparison.

Asteya in Modern Life

In modern life, asteya often appears in subtle ways. Comparing yourself to others, feeling behind, overcommitting your time, or constantly reaching for what you do not have are all expressions of imbalance. These patterns may seem normal, but they create a continuous sense of striving. Instead of being grounded in your own path, your energy becomes tied to external reference points.

Asteya as Wholeness

When you operate from the belief that something is missing, the body stays in a state of seeking. This creates tension, urgency, and a sense that fulfillment is always just out of reach. Practicing asteya shifts you into a different state, one where you begin from a place of enoughness. When you feel whole now, your actions are no longer driven by lack. They become intentional and grounded.

Practicing Asteya Daily

Notice where you are overreaching, overgiving, or comparing. Bring your attention back to what is in front of you. Respect your time, your energy, and your path. When you stop trying to take what is not yours, you begin to fully access what already is.
